Group Chief Global Health Officer

(G-CGHO)

We are looking for an executive-level global health technical specialist who will provide strategic direction for the Aurum group and work with the Group Executive Committee to develop and influence thinking on global health trends and advise on policy and strategy for the sustainable growth of the organisation globally.

The G-CGHO will lead and oversee Group-level technical experts and programme directors as global/public health thought leaders. S/he will be responsible for overseeing multi-country, cross-cutting global health programmes over the Aurum Group of companies.  The position will also develop knowledge management and strategic information systems to track the impact and knowledge generation of Aurum’s global health work at Group level.

This position will report to the Group Chief Executive Officer.

Primary Work Objectives and Functions

The Primary Objectives of the C-CGHO are to:

 

  • Lead the strategic direction of Aurum’s Global Health portfolio in infectious diseases, primarily focused on TB and HIV, global health security, antimicrobial resistance, and occupational and non-communicable diseases.
  • Supervise and coordinate technical specialists and project managers working across Aurum’s country offices and affiliate companies.
  • Oversee the implementation of multi-country (or signature single-country) and cross-cutting global health programs in conjunction with the Group Chief Operations Officer and Group Chief Science Officer.
  • Contribute to the sustained growth and development of the Group through maintaining a stable pipeline of Global Health projects.
  • Strengthen Aurum’s knowledge management and strategic information systems.
  • Develop and expand Global Health partnerships.
  • Contribute to supporting the Group CEO and Group EXCO in delivering on the vision, mission and strategic intent of the Aurum Institute.

 Minimum Requirements

Education

·               MBChB or MD, plus qualified Medical Specialist (Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Public Health, Paediatrics, Pulmonology)

or

·               MPH or other aligned Master’s degree or PhD in global health, infectious diseases or related field

Advantageous

·                Having both a MD and PhD would be advantageous.

Experience

·                At least 15 years’ experience in a Global/Public Health environment, five of which must be at a senior executive leadership level.

·                At least 10 years of experience implementing country-level programmes in Low-Middle Income countries.

·                Extensive global health knowledge of TB and HIV.

·                Leadership of large country/multi-country public health programmes, with experience working with funders such as, USAID, CDC, PEPFAR, Global Fund, BMGF, UNITAID will be preferred.

·                Experience in developing and implementing grant proposals.

·                A thought leader in the global health sector.

·                Experience in stakeholder management and linkages to global networks in public health and/or academia.

·                Sound working knowledge of the global health research sector.

·                Working with normative bodies in global health policy and representation on international technical working groups.

·                Media and public communication of key global health topics.

·                Excellent writing and presentation skills.

           Desired Requirements

·                Current registration with membership of a relevant Professional Body, if appropriate.

·                Good Clinical Practice Accredited (every two years).

·                Able to travel locally and/or globally up to 40% of time.

·                Knowledge and experience in global health security, antimicrobial resistance, and occupational and non-communicable diseases, as well as health system strengthening, supply chain management, market access, human resources for health and information systems.

·                Budget development, financial management and human resources management.

·                Fluency in French and/or Portuguese and/or other relevant languages across Africa.

·                Advanced computer skills in Microsoft, data analysis and remote work platforms.
