About The Vacancy
Why not come and work for one of Irelands most progressive and ambitious engineering and environmental consultancies. Sustainability is a core value of our work, so if you want to advance your career in a socially responsible company working towards a sustainable planet then come join us.
We are creative problem solvers who deliver design solutions for infrastructure projects focused on the water and wastewater sectors but also in transportation, civil & structural engineering, flood protection and renewables.
With our Headquarters based in Ireland we also work in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa. We recently joined the RSK Group, an amalgamation of over 150 companies working in the area of water, transportation and environmental remediation with sustainability at the heart of its strategy. Being part of a larger group provides a global network of opportunities whilst still retaining the company’s own brand and autonomy hence the role is very much focused on meeting the needs of Nicholas O’Dwyer.
Our group plan is to have reached a turnover of £1 billion with over 10,000 employees by 2025 with sustainability at our heart.
Project Overview
Addis Ababa is a city of over 3.5 million inhabitants. Like many urban centres in the developing world, Addis Ababa has serious water supply and sanitation problems. To address the basic sanitation needs of the city, the wastewater master plan formulated sewerage strategies for each sewer catchment. The Eastern Sewerage Catchment is located in the eastern part of the city. This catchment was included in the master plan following the expansion of the city and the urbanization of the area. Currently the sewerage system in the area is covering only a small part of it and mainly some of the condominium houses. Only one small wastewater treatment plant viz. the Kotebe Wastewater Treatment Plant is located in this catchment. The plant which was originally designed to treat wet sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks was modified and expanded to handle wastewater from the condominium houses.
The general objective of the project is:
· To provide the City of Addis Ababa with comprehensive plans to develop its wastewater infrastructure to meet both the short-term and long-term growth of the project areas. This should lead to an increase of the wastewater collection, treatment and effluent safe disposal capacity of the Eastern Sewerage Catchment by providing improved infrastructure for wastewater collection and safe effluent disposal within an optimal design horizon to be fixed during the feasibility study but shall be no less than 25 years.
