Project Background

As we expand across the region, Integrity is developing a roster of state-based researchers across Sudan to lead research, data collection and other services related to project monitoring and evaluation (M&E). We regularly contact members of our roster to offer contracts for qualitative and quantitative research in sectors such as migration, education, health, and WASH.

Scope of Work

Reporting to the Team Lead, the State-based Researcher will be responsible for the line management, training, monitoring and day-to-day security of 5-10 Enumerators/Field Researchers.

Terms of Reference

  • Allocate and manage a field team of Enumerators/Field Researchers in Sudan.
  • Manage and coordinate field work, specifically daily movement of the field researchers, workplan, risk management in the field, local stakeholder coordination and engagement.
  • Ensure enumerators’ safe and secure movements, planning routes and tracking movements in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Provide support to enumerator recruitment and support the identification and vetting of Field Researchers.
  • Plan sites for data collection, secure access to sites through the appropriate authorities.
  • Monitor, report and advise on the security situation in communities in Sudan where field work is to be conducted.
  • Join general training sessions (online/virtual or in-person) as required for research skills, research ethics, preventing and handling safeguarding violations, etc.
  • Attend training for specific research activities as needed – reviewing tools (such as questionnaires and interview guides), the context of surveys and data collection time frames and processes.
  • Review and ensure the quality of the data collected in the field.
  • Ensure that the number of beneficiaries surveyed is correctly captured and reported to Integrity.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the information shared by respondents and maintain all other principles of research ethics.

Your Experience and Expertise

  • Previous experience in quantitative data collection specifically surveys using ODK, Kobo Collect.
  • Previous experience in qualitative data collection (KIIs, FGDs and IDIs).
  • Ability to act as a Team Leader for the field data collectors or enumerators.
  • Wide network of male and female enumerators/data collectors in the specified state.
  • Ability to mobilize and manage enumerators.
  • Able and willing to conduct research directly as needed, especially with sensitive qualitative data.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance (QA) for collected data.
  • High level of attention to detail, punctuality, and very organized.
  • Willingness to work in the field.
  • Respect for individuals from all nationalities, ethnic groups, religions and minority populations, and a high level of cultural sensitivity.
  • Respect for the importance of confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian field is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency and exceptional writing skills, with ability to write and speak persuasive, clear, and compelling narrative in English.
  • Fluency speaking, reading, and writing in Arabic (Sudanese).
