Description

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until December 31, 2024. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Mopti, Mali.

Welthungerhilfe's (WHH) program work in Mali primarily focuses on humanitarian aid, nutrition, livelihoods and economic development with a holistic approach. As Finance Officer, you will be responsible for implementing existing financial management standards in the programs and projects efficiently and promptly, thereby making a significant contribution to the success of the program work. This in particular involves ensuring that the project's financial administrative processes at the project locations are auditable and efficient, carrying out financial administrative control checks, supporting the Heads of Project perform their supervisory duties within the framework of project administration, and supporting project partner organizations (PPO) in financial management issues so that they fulfil their contractual obligations towards WHH and the co-financiers.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure that project funds are correctly managed according to the specifications of WHH and the co-financiers

  • Oversee the liquidity planning of projects, fund requests, bank transactions, bookkeeping, preparation of end-of-month accounts and of prompt financial reports/the financial section of expenditure reports in collaboration with the Head of Finance 

  • Ensure that data documentation, account assignment and bookkeeping entries are carried out correctly in the accounting software.

  • Ensure that costs are correctly allocated internally within a project or between projects (cost allocation)

  • Prepare documents to enable Heads of Project and/or PPOs to assume budgetary responsibility (expenditure and budget control)

  • Prepare annual accounts in collaboration with the Heads of Project and Head of Finance

  • Prepare refunds/returns/final funding requests to donors

  • Instruct, advise, and supervise local administrative and financial staff

  • Support PPOs to implement projects in accordance with the co-financing agreement and WHH standards

  • Identify gaps in financial knowledge of administrative staff and prepare and deliver trainings accordingly

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in a relevant field such as Finance and/or Accounting

  • At least 3 years of professional experience working in the same or an equivalent position

  • Donor experience with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and German Federal Foreign Office would be an advantage

  • Excellent coordination and organizational skills, especially in financial management

  • Strong communication skills and intercultural competencies and ability to work in a multinational team

  • Ability to cope in a tropical climate

  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s porject countries

  • Excellent spoken and written English and French
