The Danish Red Cross (DRC) Country Office in Ethiopia is looking for a new colleague with flair for project management, partnerships and fundraising. The Migration and Protection Manager position contributes to the development and monitoring of the DRC supported project portfolio in Ethiopia, which is implemented in close collaboration with the Ethiopia Red Cross Society (ERCS).
As Migration and Protection Manager for DRC in Ethiopia you will be involved in the management of longer-term development projects on Migration/IDPs/Social Cohesion/Livelihood/PSS as well as humanitarian response operations. You will, on a daily basis, be involved in the dialogue with our partners regarding project management, fundraising and humanitarian needs. Migration and displacement-related challenges dominate the portfolio and the collaboration with ERCS and include support for the reintegration of returnees/IDPs and host communities, as well as support for internally displaced. In cooperation with ERCS there are response-oriented operations which include distribution of relief items and mainstreaming of psychosocial first aid and also longer-term projects with an emphasis on livelihood support, social cohesion as well as basic psychosocial support (PSS). DRC also supports response operations for forced returnees from the Gulf countries. The challenges facing returnees, internally displaced and persons in transit are many, and DRC is continuing to explore ways to expand the portfolio and be able to reach more vulnerable people.
DRC has a Country Office based in ERCS’ HQ in Addis Ababa. The office is currently comprised of a Country Manager, a Migration and Protection Manager, a Disaster Management Delegate, a PSS Delegate and a Country Finance Officer. DRC has a close partnership with ERCS management the CO team works closely with ERCS project staff as well as with the other Red Cross Movement Partners, such as other national societies, ICRC and IFRC.
Ethiopia is a country of origin and return migration, the country hosts many migrants in transit and has a very high number of internally displaced people. The humanitarian needs are enormous, the socio-political landscape is complex and ethnically motivated conflicts are on the rise. The challenges are many and one is not left idle. As the Migration and Protection Manager in Ethiopia, you will have the opportunity to make a difference and influence the programming and the collaboration with ERCS. We want to develop further a migration-related portfolio encompassing both developmental projects and humanitarian response operations so we reach more people, are relevant, and have results that can be used to fundraise and grow. We also want to strengthen our partner so that ERCS can be better positioned and hence benefit from the localisation agenda.
