Job Description

SNV is seeking an enthusiastic, hands on and eager to learn Accounts Payable Officer with a sharp eye for details, self-organised, and with good communication skills in multi-cultural settings.

The role is part of the Global Finance team, based in The Hague, which consists of an Accounting, Business Control and Treasury team reporting to the Global Head of Finance. The Global Finance team works closely with the finance teams in the countries where SNV operates.

As Accounts Payable Officer, you will be part of the Global Accounting team, joining the sub-team Netherlands (NL) Accounting of approx. 4-5 FTEs. The Global Accounting team is responsible for the Global Teams’ (including NL projects) accounting, financial administration and reporting including salary financial administration, hypotax processes and NL taxes.

The Accounts Payable Officer will be responsible for the administration of the accounts payable of the NL Accounting team, including but not limited to entering invoices from different suppliers, checking expense reports of NL team, preparing different kind of payments on behalf, taking care of selected processes during periodic closures (month-end, extensive closure, and year-end closure), clearing selected balance sheet items, filing etc.

The Accounts Payable Officer will report to the Global Accounting Manager. The day-to-day activities of this position will be functionally managed by the NL Accounting Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Record all NL invoices in SAP Business by Design (SBD) and manage the Accounts Payable overall.  
  • Check expense reports of NL team according to SNV travel procedure.
  • Prepare different kind of payments, which include payment run, treasury payments, liquidity requests to SNV countries, salary payments of NL team and international employees, payments on behalf of other countries, the latter when necessary.
  • Manage ticket system and make sure all invoices are processed on time and within deadlines.
  • Take care of periodic closures by clearing assigned balance sheet accounts, review and checklist preparation.
  • Monitor and process fixed assets in SBD.  
  • Document and archive all relevant back up documentation, keep files complete and up to date and maintain quality and accessibility of archive and files, conform administrative procedures and filing procedures.
  • Be a back-up for the other Finance Administrator when needed.
  • Ad hoc support when needed, such as provide supporting documentation for international employees' salaries when requested by project auditors in the countries, etc.

Qualifications

  • High vocational training, just graduated with knowledge in accounting or finance.
  • 2-3 years of relevant and demonstrable experience working in finance accounting.
  • Pro-active, eager to learn and supportive team player.
  • Good communication, writing and organisation skills.
  • Sharp eye for details and accuracy.
  • Working experience with financial systems, knowledge of SBD is advantage.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English are required.
  • Proven cultural awareness while working in an international setting.

What we offer

  • One-year National contract, with a high possibility of extension based on performance
  • 32-40 hours a week.
  • Duty Station: The Hague, The Netherlands. Note: For this role you need to be eligible to work in the Netherlands. SNV cannot sponsor for a work visa.  
  • Expected Start Date: As soon as possible
  • 240 hours leave per year, in addition to local national holidays, pro rata per contract length;
  • Holiday pay: 8% of the annual gross salary (paid out annually in May or end of contract);
  • Year-end bonus: 8,3% of the annual gross salary (paid out annually in December or end of contract).
