Call for Short-Term Experts: 

Developing and Delivering a Training of Trainers (ToT) Module on Smart Building Technology Management Systems / Building Automation Systems (BAS) in Egypt

Project: Skills4Trends (P 1021) – Partner Africa Project

Location: Egypt (Sadat City-Monufia and Alexandria, Governorates, Egypt)

Duration: 20^th August – 30^th October 2024 (Up to 80 working hours)

Background:

The Internationaler Bund (IB) and IHK-Projektgesellschaft Ostbrandenburg (IHK-PG) are implementing the Skills4Trends project in Egypt, focusing on skills development and employment promotion. We seek a qualified expert to develop and deliver a training of trainers (ToT) module on Smart Building Technology Management Systems / Building Automation Systems (BAS) for electrical trainers affiliated to the Sadat City Investors Association (SCIA) and Alexandria Business Association – Vocational Training and Employment Center (ABA-VTEC).

Objectives:

·         Develop and deliver a comprehensive ToT module focused on Smart Building Technology Management Systems / Building Automation Systems (BAS) for a group of up to eight electrical trainers (the training will take place in Sadat City, Manufia Governorate).

·         Providing the participating trainers with a deep understanding of smart home technologies, principles, applications, and industry-standard protocols, focusing on the KNX standard widely used in building automation.

·         Build practical BAS competency by equipping trainers with the practical skills to install, configure, program, troubleshoot, and maintain common smart home devices and systems.

·         Promote effective delivery by of training by improving the pedagogical skills of trainers to enable them to deliver engaging, interactive, and practical training on smart home automation and technologies to future electricians and smart building professionals.

·         Promote the sustainability of the program in at ABA-VTEC and SCIA. 

Responsibilities:

• Identify training needs in the area of smart home technologies and define learning outcomes.
• Develop a modular curriculum for a 5-day ToT course in BAS.
• Develop training materials and a trainer’s manual.
• Implement the 5-day ToT program for up to 8 electrical trainers using interactive training methods.
• Conduct pre-training assessments and post-training evaluations.
• Provide technical advice and support to SCIA and ABA/VTEC on establishing/upgrading training facilities for BAS and on establishing industry partnerships.
• Evaluate the overall program effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Submit a training report summarizing the program outcomes and providing recommendations. 

Expert Profile:

• Degree in electrical engineering, automation technology, mechatronics or related field.
• Certification as advanced KNX master trainer highly desirable.
• Minimum 5 years of practical experience in designing, installing, programming, and troubleshooting smart home systems.
• In-depth knowledge of smart home technologies, including lighting control, HVAC automation, security systems, multimedia integration, and energy management.
• At least 5 years of experience in curriculum and training module design, and in delivering ToT programs in related fields.
• Proficiency in programming languages and software used in smart home systems, particularly those related to common communication protocols (KNX and Zigbee).
• Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic.
