MedGlobal is a global humanitarian non-profit organization providing medical and health education services to people in need, including refugees and displaced persons, in disaster and underserved regions. The organization is composed of medical and public health professionals of diverse backgrounds.

JOB SUMMARY

The Grants Director at MedGlobal will be a member of the senior leadership team and will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization's grant-seeking strategies. This position will work closely with the executive and field teams to identify and pursue grant opportunities that align with MedGlobal's mission and vision. The Grants Director will also manage the grant application process, ensure compliance with grant requirements, and monitor grant performance and reporting. In addition to leading the global portfolio of grants/contracts from multiple donors, they will actively seek new donor opportunities, monitor donor trends, assist in program design through preparation of concept notes and proposals. The position holder will ensure the proper representation of MedGlobal with donors, cluster working groups, UN agencies and other NGOs. Ensuring the efficient, progressive, cost-effective and responsible growth of MedGlobal through strategic positioning, they will develop and build the program profile in line with country and global strategies. The Grants Director will lead and manage the grants team, providing direction, mentorship, and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development and Roll Out

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive grants-seeking strategy in collaboration with the executive team, program staff and field teams including assisting in preparing the annual grants plan and assessing MedGlobal grants strategy and lead the development of a 5-years Grant's strategy in 2025 that will form part of MedGlobal next Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the context-specific programs landscape and priorities to align them with grants goals and strategies.
  • Identify and engage new donors, partners, national and international NGOs, academia, etc., to work with
  • Ensure MedGlobal has an up-to-date understanding of each country’s socio-economic situation, donor trends, needs and gaps, and who does what and where
  • Support in creating country specific grants-seeking strategies and in-country fundraising mapping

Networking, Positioning and Representation

  • Establish, maintain and improve active relationships with institutional donors
  • Establish, maintain, and improve active working relationships with other NGOs and UN agencies

Donor Relationship and Proposal Development

  • When necessary encourage assessments by M&E department to ensure proposals are relevant
  • Identify and engage new donors to diversify donor portfolio
  • Identify potential relevant international and/or local partners to be included in proposals and ensure partnerships are formed based on assessment and relationship is managed successfully
  • Lead the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals while ensuring effective collaboration with Technical Unit, M&E, program managers and other relevant departments
  • Manage donor communications when developing proposals or reports
  • Oversee donor eligibility criteria alongside in-country teams

Grant Management and Database Management

  • Ensure contractual obligations and reporting deadlines are known and met by program, M&E, and support teams
  • Support the organization and follow up of project kick-off and close-out meetings and periodic grant review meetings
  • Maintain and update the reporting schedule, ensuring all stakeholders are aware of the reporting schedule and their specific roles
  • Oversee the development and timely submission of donor reports
  • Ensure ad hoc requests from donors are addressed immediately
  • Maintain and update the Grants Management system, trackers and files
  • Closely track active contracts/grants/sub-grants, modifications, deliveries and maintain a database that supports reporting initiatives

Management

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the grants team and across the organization
  • Build a grants team with appropriate resources embedded in program teams and at HQ/global level to correspond to goals and ambitions set in annual plans and through the Grants Strategic Plan. Recruit, train, and evaluate the grants team staff, ensuring their development and growth as professionals.
  • Ensure capacity building of in-country teams on donor relations, funding strategy, and report, concept note and proposal writing

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • The annual grants target for this role, to be discussed and agreed upon with the executive director and the board on an annual basis
  • The total number of submitted proposals and the percentage of successful proposals
  • The percentage of reports submitted in a timely manner
  • Annual grants-seeking plan created
  • Number of training sessions with field teams
  • Improvement of the donor portfolio over the years, with a clear categorization of donors based on their interests (e.g., Emergency vs Sustainability), donation size (large vs mid and small), areas of focus, and regions of interest.
  • Regular and timely holding of coordination meetings and submission of reports

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in grants management and fundraising
  • Demonstrated track-record of success in securing grants from a variety of sources
  • Knowledge of best practices in grant-seeking, including prospect research, grant writing, and donor relations
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with staff and stakeholders
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluating grant performance
  • Passion for and commitment to MedGlobal's mission and values
  • Willingness to travel as needed
