Office/Unit/Project Description  

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) aims to ensure the safety and security of the United Nations (UN) by providing security leadership and solutions. 
UNDSS provides security expertise to all United Nations Security Management System entities, to enable the planning and safe conduct of mandates, missions, activities and programmes of the United Nations system, while ensuring the safety and security of personnel and the security of United Nations premises and assets.
The security risk assessment is the process that helps the organization to identify, analyse, and implement security controls in the workplace. The evaluation and analysis of threats and risks to the UN, allows to provide timely and effective responds to those threats. 
Therefore, the analysis capabilities of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) in order to reduce the risks, it is deemed crucial, functioning as an early warning mechanism for the whole UNSMS in Honduras, providing analytical support to AFP and acting as a cross-departmental asset.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

The main functions that the Security Assistantt will perform support the following results:
  1. To assess the security environment and to analyse all relevant information.
    1. To conduct risk analysis and threat assessments on security developments. 
    2. To prepare security reports as required.
    3. To ensure the quick dissemination of security related information.
  2. To produce incident based and travel security advisories.
  3. To produce long-term assessments and forecasts of the security situation.
  4. To assist the Security Advisor in maintaining continuity of security information analysis efforts.
  5. To gather comprehensive information about events or actions that may affect the safety and security of the UNSMS in Honduras, and to generate reports and recommendations on same.
  6. To provide briefings to new staff members on the Mission's wide security situation and to ensure that all members are properly prepared for emergencies.
  7. To liaise and cooperate closely with national law enforcement agencies and with international counterparts in the field of security.
        

Institutional Arrangement

The position is an interagency financed post, and functions under the direct supervision of the Security Adviser of the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Honduras.

Required Skills and Experience
Min. Education requirements

-Secundary Education

-A first-level university degree (in security management, information management or political/social science or international relations with focus on security management) in combination with 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted.

Min. years of relevant work experience 

-At least 5 years of experience in positions related to security.

-Experience working in international organizations such as the UN is desirable. 

-Experiencie in the field of data analysis.

Required  skills 

-Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and database management.

-Use of Excel.

-Understanding and using the Power BI tool.

-Knowledge/use of statistical packages.

-Ability to analyze large volumes of data, identify patterns and  trends relevant to security.

-Ability to identify and understand complex information and transform it into useful knowledge.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section -Complementary studies in data analysis, computer systems, and/or formal certification training in a recognized military or police academy are also valued.
Required Language(s)
