CTG is looking to contract candidates whose experience match the below TOR.

Role objectives |
The Satellite Technician will be responsible for executing the following duties with a high degree of professionalism & technical expertise:
-
Conduct site surveys to determine optimal placement of satellite equipment, including drafting reconnaissance reports, preparing bills of quantities & coordinating with the engineering section on civil works related to satellite link installations & associated infrastructure (e.g., modems, RF / IF cables, waveguides & grounding systems).

Assist in the preparation, installation, alignment of fixed, mobile & portable VSAT system terminals ranging up to 7.3 meters, ensuring peak link performance & stability.

Support the installation & maintenance of power systems, including UPS units & AC / DC power backup solutions.

Perform system diagnostics, identify faults & carry out repairs promptly & efficiently.

Monitor VSAT links daily, track system health & draft performance reports to identify trends & potential issues proactively.

Participate in routine, scheduled preventive & corrective maintenance of all ICT & satellite equipment in the mission.

Ensure necessary spare parts & supplies are available at all times to minimize equipment downtime.

Execute any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Additional duties & responsibilities:

Maintain updated ICT inventory.

Conduct technical inspection of satellite related equipment.

Ensure compliance with all relevant UN / organizational policies, safety standards & security guidelines during deployments & installations.

This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies |
Education:
-
A high school diploma is mandatory.
-
At least a technical or academic certificate in telecommunications, electronics or a related field is mandatory.
-
An industry recognized certification in satellite communications systems is mandatory.
-
A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
-
The selected applicant will be required to undergo the UN driving test.
Experience:
-
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in satellite communication systems is required.
-
Must have operational experience with the installation, configuration & troubleshooting of satellite systems, including Newtec & iDirect modem series & BUC’s.
-
Demonstrated proficiency with specialized tools & test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters & alignment tools is required.
-
Proven experience working in conflict or post conflict environments is desirable.
Languages:
Core skills & competencies:
-
Strong practical knowledge of satellite & telecommunications equipment such as BGAN, Satcube, Starlink, Toughsat, Thuraya & Inmarsat.

In depth understanding of Satellite System Operations Guide (SSOG) procedures.
-
Demonstrated ability to independently conduct site surveys, installations & commissioning of VSAT terminals (2.4m, 3.8m, 4.9m & 7.3m).

The ability to work effectively under pressure, including in remote & high risk environments.

Excellent technical documentation, reporting & communication skills.
-
Strong interpersonal skills, integrity & commitment to results.
