**Requirements for the Position of Civil Clerk of Works:**
A Civil Engineering Clerk of Works should possess a minimum of 10 years of experience, hold an HNC or HND, and be a member of a professional engineering institution. Alternatively, a candidate may qualify with extended experience (15 years) and appropriate “on-the-job” training.
The candidate must have at least 5 years of specific experience in road construction and will assist the Resident Engineer, Site Engineer, and Materials/Pavement Engineer in supervising civil works. They should have worked on at least two road construction projects and spent a minimum of two years in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Experience should include the supervision of civil works and the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications for civil projects. This experience covers, but is not limited to:
- **Pavement Construction:** Working with surfaces of gravel, bituminous seals, and asphalt concrete (hot rolled asphalt).
- **Earthworks:** Managing cut and fill operations, ensuring appropriate handling of materials and improving marginal quality soils, drainage structures, road markings and signage, as well as overseeing site safety to protect the public and staff during project execution.
- **Measurement and Quality Control:**
The Civil Clerk of Works must be able to perform the following duties:
- Measure using suitable optical instruments or GPS equipment, and interpret the data to determine quantities of work completed for interim certification.
- Conduct field testing of earthworks and pavement construction to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Supervise laboratory testing of concrete, soil samples, and bituminous products to ensure adherence to contract specifications.
