Description

The New Business Development Lead for JRNY Consulting is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of a values-driven, feminist organisation. This role leads on the identification and cultivation of new partnerships and business opportunities that align with JRNY’s mission and values. Key areas of work include mapping and pursuing new business opportunities, leading collaborative and creative proposal development processes, cultivating and maintaining equitable partnerships, and contributing to JRNY’s community and knowledge management.

This is not your typical business development job. JRNY is a small, passionate, global team seeking to grow values-based partnerships and to disrupt inequitable, unjust systems and approaches in international development and humanitarian action. We are seeking a collaborator who is not afraid to challenge established ways of working and who is ready to engage in rigorous discussion and debate.

Key Areas of Work:

  1. Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities:
    • Proactively map, research and identify new business opportunities and partnerships that align with JRNY values and support its strategic priorities
    • Lead pre-positioning for specific opportunities, including by conducting research on prospective partners and clients, their strategies and areas of work, and potential areas for growth and learning
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and JRNY team to prioritise opportunities to pursue
  2. Developing proposals and new partnerships
    • Lead the proposal development process from start to finish, including writing, co-creating with partners and consultants, review and submission, and interview coordination and preparation
    • Identify and collaborate with partners and consultants and co-develop proposals and partnerships that intentionally shift power
    • Incorporate creative story-telling techniques into proposal development to demonstrate the unique added-value of JRNY (e.g. through the use of videos, visuals and micro-sites)
    • Provide quality assurance and ensure JRNY proposals meet requested parameters while maintaining dedication to JRNY’s values and mission; ensure problematic requests are discussed and challenged as necessary
    • Incorporate JRNY approaches and values into all steps of the proposal development process and invest in relationships with contributors to build long-term partnerships/ and collaborations
  3. Partnership cultivation and development:
    • Build and sustain relationships with partners and maintain regular contacts and collaboration outside of the proposal development space
    • Facilitate networking and new opportunities for partners
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for collective action and advocacy with partners
  4. Cross-cutting responsibilities:
    • Knowledge Management: Maintain internal files, databases and trackers on proposal development and proactively identify ways to optimise the proposal development process
    • Manage the JRNY WhatsApp Community, including regularly monitoring for new business opportunities, creating and managing new discussion threads, and facilitating membership
    • Proactively identify areas for your own learning and development and how you would like to grow as a member of the JRNY team

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in new business development, partnership, and/or resource mobilisation, particularly in the fields of international development or humanitarian aid
  • Passionate dedication to equity and justice and a demonstrated commitment to incorporate those into daily work
  • Demonstrated commitment to JRNY’s values of power and positionality, inclusion and cultural responsiveness, and active participation
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate with impact and influence others to consider new approaches and possibilities
  • Ability to work flexibly and efficiently and adjust to shifting priorities and timelines
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally and personally
