Overview
We are seeking a Senior Research & Analysis Adviser who will lead high-quality political economy and conflict analysis to inform strategic decision-making across a stabilisation programme. The post-holder will support both upstream donor engagement and downstream programme delivery, ensuring that interventions are contextually grounded, conflict-sensitive, and responsive to shifts in Syria’s dynamic environment.

The team is partly based in London (UK), and partly international who predominantly work UK hours – this role is for someone based around London that can commute to our London office 2x a week, or remotely in Beirut or Damascus.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of political economy analysis (PEA), conflict analysis, and contextual assessments to guide programme strategy, technical assistance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Produce timely, policy-relevant research outputs (briefings, papers, stakeholder maps) for internal use and external reporting to donors and partners.
- Coordinate with MEL, programme delivery, and thematic leads to ensure evidence feeds into planning, risk management, and adaptive learning processes.
- Engage with local researchers, networks, and partners across Syria to ensure grounded, inclusive perspectives inform analysis.
- Maintain close liaison with donor stakeholders, to anticipate emerging information needs and contribute to strategic communications.
- Provide analytical surge support for technical assistance draw-downs, grant decision- making, and programme pivots.
- Ensure analysis adheres to ethical standards, data security protocols, and safeguarding principles.
Competencies
- Minimum 10-14 years of experience in applied political economy/conflict analysis, ideally in fragile or conflict-affected settings.
- Proven expertise in the Syrian context, including understanding of hybrid governance structures, armed actor dynamics, and civil society.
- Strong research design, synthesis, and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights.
- Experience working in or alongside donor-funded programmes, especially those involving technical assistance or stabilisation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage research teams, oversee local fieldwork, and engage with diverse stakeholders, including at senior political levels.
- Fluent in English and Arabic
- PhD or A Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Political Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Conflict and Security Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related social science discipline with a strong analytical and research component.
