COOPI

COOPI- Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian secular and independent humanitarian organization that fights against all forms of poverty to improve the world. It was founded in 1965 by Father Vincenzo Barbieri. Today, COOPI is present in 33 countries across Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, with both emergency and development projects carried out by expatriate staff (an average of 150 people per year) and national staff. The main institutional funders are the European Union, UN agencies, the Italian government, local authorities and other European governments.

COOPI in the Country

COOPI has been registered in Jordan since 2017, implementing projects in protection, education and livelihood. COOPI assists both the Syrian population and host community in responding to the effects of the Syrian crisis. COOPI is currently looking for a Job Orientation micro-business Expert.

Role

The Education Officer will be working on COOPI’s Inclusive Education project alongside with other team members. Under the supervision of Project Manager, the Education Officer is responsible for conducting classroom observations, monitoring teachers' learning progress, and supporting the management of teachers’ circles.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise and coordinate with local partners and education authorities for the organization of trainings and capacity-building activities.
  • Monitor and support local partners in implementing training, early intervention strategies, inclusive education approaches, and PEP (Personalized Education Plan) preparation.
  • Oversee the delivery of professional training modules and ensure best practices are effectively transferred to teachers and educators.
  • The incumbent will work closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure that all feedback and comments are effectively embedded into the training sessions. This should be reflected in coordination with the assigned trainers for the capacity-building workshops., ensuring alignment with formal education and inclusive education legislations, national frameworks, and standards.
  • Support the PM and meal team to develop learning assessment tools to identify gaps in teaching methods and curricula.
  • Identify gaps in teaching methods and curricula and propose improvements.
  • Ensure inclusive education principles are embedded across all educational activities.
  • Support the identification of teachers and counselors with strong facilitation or mentoring skills.
  • Facilitate the creation and management of Teachers Learning Circles to promote peer exchange of good practices and address challenges.
  • Co-facilitate discussions within the circles of trained teachers, with the support of designated mentors.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations to assess teaching practices.
  • Monitor teachers’ learning progress and provide individual guidance.
  • Coordinate with Ministry of Education, specifically Field Education Directorates in targeted governorates, regarding cash-based interventions that address school drop-outs for children with disabilities and children with special education needs.
  • Ensure quality and standards in teaching methods and training activities.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders (e.g., NGOs, national societies, school-based management committees) to enhance educational planning and promote social cohesion.
  • Collect data and maintain accurate records to monitor progress and assess project impact particularly teachers’ learning and capacity building outcomes.
  • Ensure alignment with COOPI’s humanitarian standards and Protection Policy in all activities.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, in line with the role and project needs.

Candidate’s profile

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Post graduate degree in Education/Pedagogy/Social Science.
  • Prior experience (at least 4 years) working in emergency context on Education or in Education in the regional context with roles related to inclusive education and children with disabilities/special education needs support.
  • Prior experience as a teacher (at least 4 years).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing trainings and learning materials, organizing education activities with children with disabilities and/or special education needs, vulnerable/ out of school children, distance learning/home schooling support.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering teacher trainings and learning materials, especially on PEP, differentiated teaching techniques, understanding and inclusion of every student according to her/his own characteristics.
  • Must show dynamism in teaching techniques.
  • Excellent mentoring and coordination skills.
  • Capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team, as well as team management.
  • Good communicator, strong listening capacity, open-minded, proactive and creative.
  • Respectful and inclusive of individual and cultural differences.
  • Good analysis and problem-solving capability, and effective reporting writing skills.
  • Stress-resilient and able to cope with deadlines and complex problems.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Office Suite: MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams and databases).
  • Languages: Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of international standards, principles and tools on Education in Emergency (INEE , TiCC), National (10 Years Strategy for Inclusive Education, MoE and HCD guidelines, etc.) and International Inclusive education standards and principles is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the area of intervention (Amman – Liwa al Jam’a, Qwesimeh districts; Irbid, Beni Kenana district; Mafraq Rahab district) is an asset.
