Functional responsibilities


The intern will report to the Data Responsibility Team Lead under the overall direction of the Lead for the Centre for Humanitarian Data. The incumbent will be expected to work closely with the rest of the Centre team.

The intern will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  1. Support the annual ‘diagnostic’ review of OCHA country office adoption of actions for data responsibility.
  2. Identify data responsibility support needs and requirements of OCHA country offices.
  3. Provide support on literature reviews and similar research activities.

By the end of the internship, the selected candidate is expected to have been directly involved in the delivery of the following outputs:

  • A complete overview of country office adoption of ‘actions for data responsibility’
  • A mapping of country office data responsibility support needs
  • Desk research on data responsibility

Training components and learning elements:The selected candidate will be exposed to a very dynamic area in the humanitarian space, where they will have an opportunity to learn about humanitarian data, coordination, stakeholder management and reporting.

Participation in missions or training courses:The selected candidate is not expected to travel for this position. The candidate is expected to be hired locally (i.e. national intern).

a. Education

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a university degree such as a Bachelor’s or Master's, or have graduated within three years prior to the application date of the internship.
  • Area of study should preferably relate to International Relations, International Law or related fields.

b. Work Experience

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Experience in data protection and/or data security, and specifically in the context of humanitarian response, is an added advantage.

c. Language

  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of any of the other UN official languages is an advantage.
