Project objectives
Promotion of green territorial development and urban-rural linkages, whereby human settlements - aimag and soum centres become anchors of green agribusiness that promote sustainable, resilient, and high -carbon sequestration rangeland management. The project involves:
1. Development of a Market-Driven, Integrated, Cost-Efficient, and Climate-Resilient Livestock Supply Chain Organization
2. Competitive, Low-Carbon, and Export-Oriented Value-Added Production, Agribusiness, and SME Development
Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Rangeland and Animal Welfare Management.
4. Strengthening Animal Health and Breeding Services for Enhanced Productivity
5. Improving Irrigation Systems and Infrastructure to Enhance Livestock Forage Production.
The project is envisaged to start in April 2026 with expected duration ca. 4 years. The project is funded through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Qualifications:
- M.Sc./Phd in Rangeland Management, Ecology, or related field.
- Proven ability to develop and implement holistic rangeland management strategies
- Deep knowledge of rangeland ecosystems and herder livelihoods, with demonstrated expertise in conducting assessments
- Significant experience fostering partnerships with herder communities and government agencies
- Demonstrated experience in empowering communities and introducing innovative management practices
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to produce high-quality reports
Tasks:
- Manage the implementation of activities under Scope 3: Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Rangeland and Animal Welfare Management
- Create project baseline on rangeland health and carbon footprint
- Support to herders and PUGs to strengthen the implementation of PUGs RUA
- Support to the ALMGC and NAMEM, aimag and soum governments to strengthen rangeland health monitoring system
- Develop and implement an inclusive herd size management plan (PIHMP)
- Creation and testing of incentives to encourage the reduction of the herd size
- Capacity development to produce national rangeland health and grazing impact monitoring report
- Guide PUGs in identifying and implementing “Community investment small projects” through Community Participation in Procurement (CPP)
- Provide training and capacity building to herders on sustainable rangeland management practices
- Support the implementation of community-based rangeland management initiatives
