Since 1995 we have been working for governments, development agencies, public institutions as well as for enterprises and organisations in the agriculture and food industry in more than 60 countries (see www.adtproject.de). Main clients are the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), EU EuropeAid and other EU programmes, GIZ, FAO, USAID, WB and other public donors as well as private organisations/companies.

We are currently looking for an Animal Breeding Expert

 Project objectives

Promotion of green territorial development and urban-rural linkages, whereby human settlements - aimag and soum centres become anchors of green agribusiness that promote sustainable, resilient, and high -carbon sequestration rangeland management. The project involves: 

1.     Development of a Market-Driven, Integrated, Cost-Efficient, and Climate-Resilient Livestock Supply Chain Organization

2.     Competitive, Low-Carbon, and Export-Oriented Value-Added Production, Agribusiness, and SME Development

3.     Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Rangeland and Animal Welfare Management.

4.     Strengthening Animal Health and Breeding Services for Enhanced Productivity

5.     Improving Irrigation Systems and Infrastructure to Enhance Livestock Forage Production.

 

The project is envisaged to start in April 2026 with expected duration ca. 4 years. The project is funded through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in animal breeding, preferably in rural or development contexts.
  • Experience with animal breeding and genetics.
  • Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and welfare standards.
  • Excellent record-keeping and data management skills.
  • Proficiency in using breeding software and technologies.
  • Knowledge of veterinary procedures and animal care.
  • Basic understanding of animal welfare and care standards.
  • Physical stamina to handle and care for animals.
  • Attention to detail and observational skills.

 Tasks:

 1.     Assess current breeding practices at the local level. 

2.     Identify high quality breeding animals in the view of demand in the markets.

3.     Develop standards and criteria for the selection of breeding animals.

4.              Develop community based effective breeding service business models.

5.              Support implementation of pilot projects (up to 5).

6.              Collect data and carry out assessments on productivity and other quality indicators of selected breeding programs.

7.              Develop training models for herders and local breeding specialists.

8.              Design digital identification and traceability of breeding animals.
