Established in 2008, the Disaster and Development Organization (DADO) is an independent, non-profit organization that specializes in policy analysis, action research, and project implementation for disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, public health, business continuity management, and sustainable development at local, national, regional, and global levels. DADO's work encompasses the interdisciplinary field of sustainability science, focusing on the intricate interplay between environmental preservation, societal well-being, and economic equilibrium. We have developed a unique expertise in understanding how disasters can reverse development achievements, while sustainable development can, in turn, minimize disaster risks and impacts. In this context, single-track disaster risk reduction approaches often fall short due to fragmented efforts, limited knowledge sharing, poor coordination, weak leadership, inadequate resources, insufficient institutional support, and overall cost inefficiency. A more effective solution lies in adopting a whole-of-society approach—one that brings together government, private sector, and civil society to integrate multi-hazard risk reduction with development planning processes.

Position

This position will be based in Dhaka, with a Fixed Term Contract of One (1) year, renewable for longer term based on both performance and mutual agreement.

Objective of this position

DADO seeks an experienced professional for the role of Director. The candidate will have an in-depth understanding of establishing charitable sector and has ambitious to progress independently to the sector in Bangladesh and beyond.

Key responsibilities

·       Develop collaboration and partnership between philanthropists, civil society, social media groups, non-governmental organization (NGOs), International non-governmental organization (INGOs), development partners, United Nations agencies, public and private sectors for the well-being of the society.

·       Take all the initiatives to conduct research relating to disasters and sustainable development.

·       Take proactive measures to prevent avoidable deaths which are arising

·       Undertake capacity development initiatives for students, youth, professional and community

·       Launch awareness generation program to response to the early warning among the disaster affected community.

·       Take initiative to develop a team of young scholars who could be able to grasp academic knowledge, policy documents and take initiative which would be implemented with adopting participatory approaches.

Qualifications

Education Criteria

• Post-graduate qualifications in any discipline.

Experience Criteria

• A minimum of five years of relevant experience for a director position in program /project management related to any humanitarian fields is required.
• Experience in senior management positions, including resource mobilization and partnership building, is required.
• Experience in leadership positions, including leading complex programmes and interacting with and establishing productive cooperation with a diverse number of partners comprising Governments, the UN, multilateral systems, the private sector, science, and civil society, is required.
• Experience overseeing office management in large international organizations is desirable.
• Experience advocating for the core mandate of organizations with a wide range of partners is desirable.
