GGGI and BOAD commit to cooperate in favor of biodiversity and climate finance in West Africa

Ms. Helena McLeod, Deputy Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and Mr. Ibrahima DIOUF, Special Advisor representing the President of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), signed a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of the COP15 on desertification held in Côte d’Ivoire.

This partnership framework will facilitate cooperation, understanding, and collaboration between the parties to achieve their objectives t the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the implementation of the Paris Agreement through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), support for the implementation of the country’s biodiversity, climate change, and green growth strategy and action plan, as well as the mobilization of climate finance, including co-financing of projects.

These specific objectives include formulation of climate projects and programs through the development of concept notes, project proposals, and full funding proposals; mobilization of climate finance through UN financial mechanisms such as the Adaptation Fund (AF), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The BOAD has been selected by the National Designated Authority of Côte d’Ivoire as implementing entity of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for the e-mobility project with a total cost of USD 238 million. Within the framework of this project, GGGI is responsible for the implementation of components 4 and 5 entitled respectively “Governance framework, policies, and regulations conducive to the adoption of e-mobility” and “Demonstration in support of e-mobility infrastructure”.

By signing this Memorandum of Understanding, the two institutions reiterate their commitment to environmental preservation, to fight against climate change, green growth, and the formulation of climate projects.
