Photovoice in Development: Amplifying Voices, Fostering Social Transformation I Webinar

Empowerment, community engagement, and planting seeds for change through photography has become possible thanks to photovoice. Established in the 1990s by a health researcher, this distinctive visual research approach has been successfully implemented on all continents, addressing social issues, influencing policies, and providing valuable data to the scientific community with a view to effect social change.

DevelopmentAid, in collaboration with the Netherlands-based international development advisory agency ResultsinHealth, invites development workers, social scientists, researchers, NGO consultants and other interested parties to join the webinar, Photovoice in Development: Amplifying Voices, Fostering Social Transformation.

During this webinar, our guest speakers will introduce the methodology and discuss its possible applications and benefits. They will also provide useful examples to illustrate the practical implementation of this creative approach.

Given its strong focus on social change, photovoice can be used in the development sector for various purposes, such as needs assessment, advocacy, research or to evaluate a program’s impact.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is yet one more component that can greatly benefit from this methodology. Photovoice offers a unique and complementary approach to M&E by allowing people to identify and represent themselves and demonstrate their community’s needs. It uses the immediacy of the visual image and an accompanying narrative to provide the evidence with which to foster a space for social change.
