At the 2023 World Health Summit, government officials, leaders of international organizations, and experts came together for a timely discussion on how to improve access to healthcare for vulnerable populations.
Around the world, inequities in health prevent underserved populations from achieving their full potential. From the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events to conflict and health emergencies, the vulnerabilities of health systems continue to be laid bare.
Sustainable, inclusive, and resilient infrastructure and efficient procurement systems play a critical role in strengthening the resilience of health systems. But how can this be achieved in fragile and conflict-affected areas?
During the 2023 World Health Summit held in Berlin, Germany, UNOPS and the World Health Organization (WHO) jointly hosted a session on fostering health system resilience in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
The high-level panel – which included the UNOPS Executive Director, health ministers from Yemen and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as representatives from WHO Ukraine and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – discussed practical solutions that could be scaled up to provide better access to health for vulnerable populations.
