Vărgata commune is located in the geographical subdivision called Niraj Depression, on the upper course of the Nirajul Mare river, 25 km away from Tg. Mures, 30 km from Sovata and 5 km from Miercurea Nirajului. The commune consists of five localities: Vărgata, centru de comună, Valea, Mitreşti, Vadu, Grâuşorul. The grass in the village of Grâușorul is populated by rare and protected flowers, such as the painted tulip (Fritillaria meleagris), lușca (Leucojum vernum), Iris syberica. This natural tourist spot is a local protected area.
