Mundu Agricultural Environmental and Educational Organization

Mundu Agricultural Environmental and Educational Organization (MAEEO) is registered as a nonprofit local NGO in Kenya, and is currently working in the marginal counties of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui which have high poverty levels and are prone to drought.MAEEO works with grass root community groups, and especially women and youth groups, through design, implementation and monitoring of projects. The thematic areas of the projects are in sustainable ecological agriculture and produce marketing; environmental conservation and awareness creation tree nurseries establishment and tree planting, renewable energy, water and sanitation, solid waste management and nature based enterprises; community empowerment and capacity building with emphasis on women and youth; and mainstreaming of cross cutting issues (HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, human rights, good governance and gender). Consultancy work is also provided as source of income and for sustainability. It is not discriminative and works with all people regardless of age, religion, political affiliation, gender or colour.

Since its inception in 2003, MAEEO has supported over 300 community groups with 9,000 members directly and 60,000 indirectly. Some of its past and current partners include DANIDA and EU through the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF); International Labour Organization Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (ILO/YEF); Swedish Bio vision International; Global South Partnership Programme and FCG Swedish Development AB CONSULTING AB; Green Belt Movement, community associations and groups, public schools, and private enterprises.
