About

The National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA) is a Rwandan government institution operating under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM), established in 2013 to spearhead structural shifts in industrial development. Its primary mission is to foster a competitive, private-led industrial sector through research, technology acquisition, and innovation, with a specific focus on promoting green, sustainable, and high-value, locally made products. NIRDA supports industrial growth by strengthening firm-level competitiveness, focusing on key sectors such as construction materials, food processing, packaging, and textiles.

As a service-based agency, NIRDA provides targeted technical and financial support to industries, including technology upgrades, laboratory testing services (STEM and Life Sciences), and business incubation/acceleration programs. The agency operates through a three-pronged approach: Open Calls programs for equipment, Knowledge Management for technology tracking, and Applied Research and Development. By facilitating the transfer and commercialization of new technologies, NIRDA aims to drive import substitution, boost export potential, and transition Rwandan enterprises from subsistence to advanced manufacturing.
