ERIS - Electoral Reform International Services

Simon Thomas and Nick O’Reilly of leading restructuring and insolvency firm, Moorfields Corporate Recovery Ltd, were appointed administrators over Electoral Reform International Services Limited (ERIS) on 19 November 2014. The ERIS is a UK based not-profit-making organisation providing support to strengthen democratic institutions, processes and culture around the world. It has been one of the few dedicated European organisations working in this area. Unfortunately as a small non-governmental organisation without core funding it has become increasingly difficult to operate in recent years given the economic climate and the consequent reduced funding available. Nick O’Reilly, Joint Administrator commented “ERIS carried out the majority of its work funded by EU grants and contracts. There has recently been an EU funding crisis and projects planned have had to be deferred or cancelled. Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS) is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation. We have worked in over 70 countries and provided experts for international agencies, governments, election management bodies, non-governmental organisations, and other key democracy institutions.

ERIS (electoral reform international services) provided assistance and advice through partnerships with those involved in building democracy. During the years that ERIS worked across the world, they created a reputation through a number of beneficial projects;

• Citizen Scrutiny of Parliament – they promoted the ‘Parliamentary Scorecard' as a way of communicating information on MPs’ activities
• Media in Conflict Environments – they prepared training courses for journalists in conflict environments
• Disadvantaged Groups – they co-operated with in-country partners to help those in under-represented and disadvantaged groups to participate in the political process e.g. women, ethnic and religious minorities, young people and people with disabilities, amongst others
