At a distance of about 55.00 km from Khulna in the southernmost part of Bangladesh, very close to the sea (about 50.00 km), the second seaport of Bangladesh is centered on Mongla. Mongla Port Municipality with immense potential. The importance of this municipality is many due to various reasons.

The Sundarbans in particular, which is known as the largest mangrove forest in the world, is close to Mongla Port Municipality, a natural resource, which attracts a large number of foreign tourists during the spring and winter seasons. Moreover, places of interest for travel thirsty people such as; Hiranpoint, Akram Point, Dublarchar, Alor Kol, Harbaria, Karamjal, Katka, Kachikhali, Tiger Point, Jaymonirghol, And in order to see the unique beauty of the inner nature of the Sundarbans, tourists from different parts of Bangladesh and from different countries visit this place through Mongla Port Municipality.

Due to which this municipality is very important to different regions of Bangladesh and different countries but despite its immense potential, due to lack of development and efforts, this important municipality has gradually become backward. Since the creation of the municipality in 185 years, it has been plagued with various problems due to lack of proper development. The municipality was the most backward due to the unplanned activities of the past municipal councils and boundless indifference. No pastor has been added to the municipal prosperity in the progress of development.

Some roads and drains in the past 2000s, A bus terminal and a kitchen market were built along with the culverts which are of no use for the economic development of the municipality. The road ghats and infrastructures of that time were almost destroyed due to the devastating cyclone Sidr and tidal wave. Especially the unplanned drainage system and the lack of switch gates at the mouths of the canals flowing through the municipality is a major problem of the municipality.
Due to which, when the road ghats of the municipality are submerged under 1/2 foot of water during high tide, there is no limit to the suffering of the people.
