About
Landmine Survivors Initiatives (LSI) is local non governmental organization which started with its work in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 1997 as part of the global Landmine Survivors Network (LSN) program. As a result of the transition processes in 2009 the new local organization (LSI) has been established and it became the legal successor of all technical, material and human resources of LSN BiH including also the foundations of its program, philosophy, methodology, target population and organizational structure.
LSI BiH was established in 1997, following the Princess Diana humanitarian mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina focusing on awareness raising on problems of landmines and issues of landmine survivors. From that time, the geographic presence in the country has been continuingly expanded. The first operations have been conducted from the main office in Tuzla and currently LSI BiH covers over 80 municipalities in 12 most heavily mined regions in the country (Tuzla, Doboj East, Doboj, Banja Luka, Bihac, Velika Kladusa, Mostar, Trebinje, Bugojno, Gorazde, Sarajevo and Bijeljina). Through the support programmes, LSI permanently builds close relationship/cooperation with its beneficiaries reaching 2.500 landmine survivors/other amputees until October 2009.
