About

IDEWES is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was founded and registered in 2001 under Section 10 of the NGOs Co-ordination Act. The organisation was founded with the aim of mobilizing resources and technical capacity in addressing the myriad of problems facing communities in Kibera. Since its inception, the organisation has been active in providing support through an established centre, which is centrally located in Kichinjio village in Kibera. Support to the community is provided through five key programmes: Home Based Care (HBC); Care and Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC); Economic Empowerment and Social Development; Human Rights and Conflict Resolution; and Education and Child Sponsorship. Key beneficiaries are children, women and people living with HIV and AIDs (PLWHAs). Implementation is carried out by local staff from Kibera, and occasionally by skilled international volunteers.
