About

Over the last two decades, ILAP has grown as new immigrant communities have come to Maine and moved to new areas of the state, and as our immigration laws and policies have become more complex and more difficult to navigate without the help of an attorney. We have focused on sustainable growth, including expanding our Asylum Program in 2011, launching a Washington & Hancock County Project in 2016 (which has since grown into the state-wide Rural Maine Project), and opening of an office in Lewiston in 2018. Since 2019, we have continued to grow our Asylum Program, launched an Immigrant Children’s Project, and led other initiatives in response to urgent legal needs. Our Pro Bono Asylum Panel continues, and remains an important component of ILAP’s programming.
