About
The idea of creating a Red Cross of Chad was born following the floods caused by the overflow of the Logone River from the Koumi Bokdane villages | and || in Canton Koumi (Mayo-Kebi East), on October 25, 1970. It was also in the same year, precisely on August 05, 1970 that the government signed the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
In 1971, a relief committee was set up in 1972, it draws up draft statutes and internal regulations and the Ministry of the Interior and Security issues a provisional authorization to operate. On January 25, 1973, the government of the time recognized the Red Cross of Chad by decree 040/PR/SGG/73 as a public utility association.
On February 12, 1979, the structures of the Chadian Red Cross were dismantled.
On June 1, 1983, the government of the Republic of Chad officially recognized the Red Cross of Chad by decree 134/PR/MSP/83 within the meaning of article 25 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
The Red Cross of Chad recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on April 15, 1988 and by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on April 22, 1988 as the 146th National Society recognized by the Movement which currently has 189 National Societies.
