About

Street Child Netherlands is a charity founded in 2014. Through education we help the most vulnerable children in the world build a sustainable future. For the first two years, Street Child Netherlands was managed by a team of volunteers and interns. Street Child Netherlands has had a part-time staff member since 2017. In this way the organization can grow and raise more funds for the projects.

Our sister organization Street Child UK started in 2008 helping a small number of street children in Sierra Leone. Since then, Street Child has helped more than 650,000 children go back to school, and we have helped thousands of families generate sustainable income so that their children can continue to receive education. Today Street Child works in 16 countries in Africa and Asia.

We believe that education is the best way to grow. Without a strong educational foundation, no society can create a better life for their children or hope for a better future. Everything depends on education, and we think that's where we can make the biggest difference. Since the start of Street Child UK in 2008, the organization has started in the Netherlands and a number of other European countries, enabling us to strengthen Street Child's worldwide network and raise funds for the various projects. Street Child Netherlands is currently focusing on creating educational opportunities and a safe home base for children in Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nepal and Uganda. With this we hope to make big changes in the world!

To get the funds raised implemented, Street Child has highly qualified teams, with local staff in each location. Within each of those countries, Street Child UK has at least one staff member, who advises as a consultant and helps with the monitoring and evaluation of the various projects. The reporting of Street Child Netherlands also comes from this team and this Street Child consultant, which is why we know exactly where our funding goes and who benefits from it.

OUR STRATEGY
All Street Child entities have the same focus, with three strategic points: child protection, strengthening families' incomes and educating children.

We protect children with the help of social workers across the different countries in which we work. They select the most disadvantaged children, help them find a safe home base and get them (back) to school by helping the families create an income. The ultimate result is that every child finishes school in a qualitative way. To achieve this, we build schools in remote areas, train teachers and help crowded schools to create more capacity. In addition, we stand up for gender equality and access to schools for disabled people. We want to make a long-term impact, which is why sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our hope is that one day we will no longer be needed and that all families can support themselves and the children can go to school. That's why we empower families, teachers and communities to support themselves through training, school construction, school packages and business grants.
