Why the name Daphne ?
Daphne is a character from Greek mythology, a young nymph who, due to her beauty, had attracted the attention of Apollo . According to Ovid , the God of Love in revenge had made Apollo fall in love, hitting him with a golden arrow and, at the same time, with a lead arrow he had hit Daphne making her indifferent to the requests and attentions of her suitor. The meeting between the two represents the meeting between two conflicting wants, between those who want to abuse their strength and power and those who do not intend to suffer an unsolicited and unwanted love. Daphne decided to say no and asked Mother Earth for help to avoid what she felt was a danger. Daphne thus turned into a laurel, making Apollo's claims vain. Since then, laurel leaves have encircled the heads of poets, sages and heroes.
The myth therefore highlights the possibility of escaping violence and transforming oneself, keeping intact, as happens to Daphne, one's integrity and beauty.
