About

The Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) is a research center in Social Sciences characterized by independent, plural and interdisciplinary study of Peru and Latin America.

Since its founding, the IEP has obtained important achievements in the field of social studies and has contributed significantly to the discussion of topics of fundamental interest for the development of the country. Its research activities and dissemination of social studies about Peru and other countries in the Latin American region seek to contribute to economic development with equity, the strengthening of democratic institutions and the recognition of the richness of cultural diversity.

The institute is committed to a broad view of the country's social problems, which includes historical, economic, social, political and cultural aspects, with the aim of achieving a more precise understanding of the national reality. The research aims to identify the factors that hinder the sustainable development of Peruvian society and propose mechanisms to overcome them. Currently, research is organized into four areas:

Inequalities and social change
Power, democracy and citizenship
Reforms and public policies
History and culture

The IEP carries out its work in an environment of intense interdisciplinary dialogue and is in permanent generational renewal. Its researchers have extensive experience that combines research, teaching, the formulation and implementation of social and economic policies, and participation in different State agencies.

Our publishing house , with around 900 titles distributed in 32 thematic series, is one of the most important in social science topics in the entire Andean area. Every year around 30 new books are produced that are debated and discussed at public events with national and foreign specialists. The IEP seeks to disseminate the results of its studies among the general public and among those responsible for formulating policies.

With more than 50 years of experience, the Institute of Peruvian Studies is recognized as one of the most important centers of excellence in Peru and Latin America.
