What is NEAT?

NEAT is the Northern Environmental Action Team. We are a home grown group of creative and innovative people that believe in building healthy, vibrant, and connected communities through education and outreach activities.

NEAT is a registered Society under the BC Society’s Act and a Federally recognized charity.

Is NEAT a Non-Profit?

Yes, as a non-profit organization, NEAT is governed by a volunteer board of directors elected from our membership. Any and all proceeds NEAT makes in a year are reinvested in the organization, often being spent on staff or services in our community.

What does NEAT do?

NEAT is a proud part of northern BC and provides community outreach and education programming like NEATfx, our K-12 Education Program, Food Secure Kids, a K-6 food security program, and NOURISH, a local food rescue providing job skills training opportunities. The Drop Depot is also an important part of NEAT as it provides some support for monthly expenses.

Does NEAT receive government funding?

NEAT receives funding from local, regional, and provincial levels of government for specific programming. We do not currently receive any core funding from government.

Where does NEAT’s funding come from?

NEAT’s funding comes from a variety of places. Just over half (51%) of our annual funding comes from donations/sponsorship for programming and contract programming (like yard waste collections and consulting/support services). The remainder comes from donations, memberships, and fundraising.
