About
The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn was created out of bold plans and dreams of a University that will provide space for representatives of various science disciplines, educating students ready to change the reality of their region and country. These desires mobilized to look for common values - what connects, not what divides.
The tree inscribed in the University's emblem, a symbol of permanence and growth, reminds us that the University of Warmia and Mazury respects tradition and is ready for constant changes. The roots of the University draw from the experience of many academic centers important for the history of the region, above all - Olsztyn universities, the merger of which resulted in the establishment of UWM in 1999.
Permanent values based on the scientific search for truth constitute a common trunk from which new branches of scientific disciplines and fields of study grow. The research carried out here is the realization of the scientific ambitions of the university's employees and a response to the challenges of the present day.
Kortowo, where history meets modernity, enjoys the opinion of one of the most beautiful academic campuses in Poland and Europe. The university town with its lakes and ubiquitous greenery is a beautiful showcase of Warmian nature. In a symbolic dimension, it also reminds of the relationship between the University and the region. Awareness of these relationships and social responsibility make UWM not only a cultural and opinion-forming place, a partner for local governments and the economic environment, but also an inspiration for the broadly understood development of Warmia and Mazury. The university also mediates in the transfer of new technologies and enables companies to use the latest research results, being a scientific showcase of Olsztyn and the region.
The university regularly increases the number of rights to confer doctoral and habilitated doctor degrees, creating career opportunities for researchers. The need for continuous growth is also reflected in the subsequent scientific successes of the UWM staff, as well as in the constantly modernized and expanded university infrastructure.
