HALO Medical Foundation (HMF)

HMF conducts community awareness programs and campaigns related to women’s health, sanitation and hygiene, child marriage, dowry system and invests efforts to educate the community through a variety of communication tools.HMF initiated street lays in 1996 in the earthquake-affected region. The use of street plays (Savdhan Kalapathak – Local Marathi word for Street Play) has proven to be a very effective medium for health education. Generally, in rural areas, many people enjoy watching street plays. HMF’s model of street plays uses traditional folk songs to address issues such as child marriage, alcoholism, and sanitation. Each program lasts about 2-3 hours and has been very successful in creating dialogue among community members. HMF staff members design the content of street plays and also perform in the plays.
