About
The Danish Assistance to Afghan Rehabilitation and Technical Training (DAARTT) was established in 2003 as a non-political, non-profit humanitarian organization.
The main objective of DAARTT is to support the need for reconstruction and development in Afghanistan, with special focus on the educational sector. The Afghan Ministry of Education works closely together with DAARTT for projects on school construction and rehabilitation. In addition, more focus is also required to improve resources such as teacher capacity building programmes and constructing teacher resource centres in schools.
DAARTT is specialized in planning, design and construction of buildings and in building capacity in all aspects of construction.
Its core staff consists of highly experienced Afghan engineers and architects. In addition, DAARTT is able to draw on a network of international experts.
With support from key development partners such as the World Bank, DANIDA, the European Union, Norway, UNODC, UNHCR, Danish Refugee Council, the Afghan Ministry of Education, and private donors, DAARTT has for instance:
- constructed more than 200 schools, clinics, dormitories, justice and other buildings in Afghanistan
- supported key ministries in the development of school designs for the Citizen’s Charter and the World Bank’s Education Quality Reform in Afghanistan (EQRA) programme
- monitored more than 100 construction projects for donors.
