1. Organizational Background

Positive Responsive Child and Youth Development in Ethiopia (PRCYDE) is a legally registered, non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2021, with registration number 5643 under the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Authority for Civil Society Organizations.

PRCYDE was founded with the vision of creating a society where all children and youth in Ethiopia grow up in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment, realizing their full potential. The organization adopts a rights-based, inclusive, and participatory approach to ensure that children, youth, and women are protected, empowered, and actively engaged in sustainable community development.

Its mission is to promote the well-being and empowerment of children and youth through education, protection, economic opportunities, health services, and meaningful participation. Currently, PRCYDE operates with 6 dedicated staff members and 82 active volunteers.

PRCYDE implements integrated and community-driven programs under the following strategic themes:

  1. Child Protection and Safeguarding – Promoting safe environments and protecting children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  2. Youth and Women Empowerment – Supporting young people and women with leadership, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities.
  3. Education and Skills Development – Enhancing access to quality education, vocational training, and life skills.
  4. Gender Equality and Women’s Leadership – Advancing equal participation and decision-making roles for women and girls.
  5. Climate Resilience and Environmental Protection – Promoting sustainable livelihoods, green skills, and environmental stewardship.
  6. Workplace Safety, Decent Work, and Human Rights – Fostering fair, safe, and equitable work environments through human rights–based approaches.

5. Key Achievements and Projects

PRCYDE has successfully initiated and implemented several impactful programs, including:

  • Enhance Workplace Safety, Risk, and Incident Reduction Project – Improving occupational health and safety (OHS) and human rights practices across factories in Bahir Dar City.
  • Advancing Women in Leadership Research – Studying barriers and enablers to gender equality in managerial positions to inform inclusive workplace policies.
  • Youth Empowerment and Leadership Initiative – Providing skills development and mentorship to young people for employment, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
  • Climate and Environmental Education Campaigns – Building youth and women’s capacity to engage in climate action and sustainable natural resource management.
  • PRCYDE Experience in Youth Civic Engagement, Human Rights, and Peace building
  • “Youth Civic Engagement for Inclusive Governance and Accountability” (2022–2024)

7. Organizational Capacity

PRCYDE is led by a diverse team of professionals with expertise in youth development, gender, education, environment, and governance. The organization operates with a clear governance structure that includes:

  • A General Assembly as the highest decision-making body
  • A Board of Directors providing oversight and policy guidance
  • An Executive Management Team responsible for program implementation, finance, and operations

PRCYDE has strong partnerships with community organizations, local governments, and international development agencies, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accountability in all program activities.

PRCYDE aims to scale its interventions across more regions, deepen impact in youth and women empowerment, enhance climate resilience projects, and strengthen partnerships to promote sustainable development and inclusive growth.
