About

Registered in 2007, Horn of Africa Institute (HAI) formally known as Foundation for Pastrolits Women(FFPW) is a regional not-for-profit organization that works to expand its scope to some nine countries – Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, Eritrea, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Djibouti in Eastern and Horn of Africa region. In Kenya, our programing landscape covers over 10 counties in Northern Kenya (Isiolo, Turkana, Baringo, Westpokot, Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River), each with its own history and experience on land and natural resources management, thanks to the expertise of its diverse staff, including researchers, consultants, women leaders, youth and partnerships backed by a global network of partners. Our Mission is to address the root causes of pastoral vulnerability and especially those that limit the capacities of women and girls.

From 2007 to date, our work has continued to help transform lives of about 10,000 pastoralists communities through equitable and sustainable partnerships - we work with governments, philanthropic foundations, private sector, non-governmental organizations, academics and civil society to transform approaches to progressive social, political and economic change in ways that ultimately make a difference to the lives of pastoral communities, especially women and girls. Our Vision is to secure, protect and improve the lives, livelihoods and Rights of Pastoralist Communities.
