About

AVSF started its activities in Haiti in 1992 with support for the NGO "VETERIMED", which specializes in animal husbandry and health, before opening a permanent office in 2001. Since then, in partnership with farmers' organisations, associations of producers, cooperatives or NGOs, AVSF has chosen to support promising initiatives: AVSF supports small-scale irrigation in the plains and mountains, the country's food-producing potential which is currently under-exploited, and has developed innovative development methods and participatory reforestation of often very degraded watersheds.

AVSF supports farmers' organizations active in fair trade export (coffee, cocoa, fruit) and local (animal and plant food products, milk, etc.) sectors. AVSF thus contributes to the consolidation of the network of mini-dairies "Letagogo" which promotes local dairy production and supports the organizations of associated breeders. AVSF also supports more than five farmers' associations in the fruit, cocoa and coffee sectors.

In 2012, the 2,500 cocoa producers of the Feccano organization thus doubled the volume of certified “organic and fair trade” cocoa exported to Europe. Finally, AVSF has developed an innovative approach to support the installation of young farmers: more than 100 young rural people from the Central Plateau have thus benefited from training combined with a mixed system of subsidies and credit.
