Programa Moscamed (Guatemala)

MOSCAMED Program is the official institution in charge of the detection, control, suppression and eradication of the Mediterranean fly from its territory and its work activities are aimed at detecting the presence of the pest and suppressing it with an integration of controls. outbreaks or detections in the areas of influence, concentrating on three work areas: Free Area, Low Prevalence Area and Suppression Area.

The MOSCAMED Program operates from the following work centers: Central Offices in Guatemala; Petén Operations Center based in Santa Elena, Petén; Northern Transversal Strip Operations Center based in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz; Noroccidente Operations Center based in Huehuetenango; Southwest Operations Center based in Retalhuleu and a sterile Mediterranean fly Production Plant located in Barberena, Santa Rosa, and a Cold Adult Packaging Center in Retalhuleu.
