About

Myanmar Catholic Health Commission – MCHC (formerly known as Episcopal Commission for Health Pastoral Care -ECHC) was formulated in 2004 by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Myanmar (CBCM) and Bishop Alexander Pyone Cho is the presiding Chairman. While the commission was not well-functioning in most of the diocese, under the guidance of the chair Bishop "The First Myanmar Catholic Health Coordination Meeting" was organized in November 2016, and the meeting defined to strengthen the commission at the diocesan level as well as national level.

Since then, the health team of the national office of Karuna Mission Social Solidarity - KMSS (Internationally known as Caritas Myanmar) has taken the secretariat role of MCHC and facilitated to strengthening of the commission. As a result, the MCHC advisory committee was composed, developed MCHC’s statute, strategic plan, and financial management policy, formed and reinforced Diocesan Health Commission (DHC) across 16 dioceses, and provided health care services through (16) DHCs.
