About

The Federal Institute for Geology, Geophysics, Climatology and Meteorology provides the combined expertise to find answers to society's major challenges.

The state weather and earthquake service, formerly the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), and the geological service, the Federal Geological Institute (GBA), will combine their expertise in GeoSphere Austria on January 1, 2023. As a national geological, geophysical, climatological and meteorological service, this federal institute makes an important contribution to increasing national resilience and crisis resistance.

From data to models and forecasts
Systematically and sustainably collected data, based on nationwide meteorological and geophysical measurement networks and observatories, form the basis for models and forecasts to answer current questions at the interface between the atmosphere and the subsurface. These concern climate change, extreme weather events, natural hazards as well as sustainable raw material extraction and groundwater protection.
