About
The Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP) is a scientific and technological research institution designed to achieve sustainable development for the Amazonian population, with an emphasis on rural areas, specializing in the conservation and correct use of natural resources in the Amazon region. It carries out its activities in a decentralized manner, promoting institutional participation and that of organized civil society. It was created in 1981 by Law No. 23374, following the mandate of Article 120 of the Political Constitution of Peru of 1979, and was ratified in 2004 by Law No. 28168, which grants it internal public law status, as well as economic and administrative autonomy.
Through these Directorates, the IIAP develops research, evaluation and control of natural resources, promoting their rational use and fostering economic activities that allow the sustainable development of rural communities settled in the Peruvian Amazon. It has a main headquarters in Loreto and decentralized bodies in the Amazonian regions of Peru, in Loreto, Ucayali, San Martín, Madre de Dios, Amazonas and Huánuco, as well as a coordination office in the city of Lima.
