The association La Halte Père Etienne Grienenberger (LHPEG) has been working since 1999 to serve people in great social distress and without accommodation.
Established on September 28, 1999 on Reunion Island, by a collective of associations: Reunion Association for Mutual Aid to the Liberated, Popular Education Association of the Saint-Jacques District, the French Red Cross, the Abbé Pierre Foundation, Catholic Relief Services, the Martin Luther King Center and A Roof for Living, following a prefectural declaration declaring the unsanitary state of the "Saint-Jacques Night Shelter" (homeless shelter) located in the Commune of Saint-Denis.
Goals :
- Prevent exclusion.
- Recreate “social bonds”.
- Support towards access to standard housing.
- Promote autonomy.
