PIAFORD - People in Action for Development

Peoples In Action for Development (hereafter referred to as PIAFORD) is a Local Non-Governmental Organization (LNGO) operating in Traditional Authority (TA) Mlolo in Nsanje district.  It was established in 1997 as Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in one Group Village Headman (GVH) only.  In 2014, following a series of Organizational Development (OD) processes, the organization got registered with the Registrar General as a Local Non-Governmental Organization (LNGO), known as, People in Action for Development, with expanded mandate, programme scope and geographical coverage.  PIAFORD certified with Non governmental Regulatory Authority (NGORA) in 2024, recognized as one of organizations in Malawi. It also got registered with CONGOMA in accordance with the law. Currently, PIAFORD operates in Nsanje district.

PIAFORD currently operates from Fatima and Bangula offices, in the Eastern and west bank of the Shire river, with ten members of staff. However, depending on level of funding, PIAFORD recruits additional staff, whose contracts are aligned to the period of the project.

PIAFORD is a people centered organization working to empower the community, particularly women and the youth to manage and sustain their own development and transformation in Heath, Education, Climate resilience and social economic development.  PIAFORD operates in an Honest, Transparent, Accountable and Diligent manner.
