Brien Holden Vision Institute Foundation

Brien Holden is a leading champion for research and the development of new and better vision care technology and products. He and his partners helped establish a development agenda targeting uncorrected refractive error – the leading and yet most easily avoidable cause of vision loss. Brien helped establish the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit at University of New South Wales, an international hub where multi-disciplinary research took aim at the most pressing challenges facing optometry today. He also co-pioneered the development of the silicone hydrogel contact lens, a breakthrough product which today accounts for more than 50% of all contact lenses used worldwide.
