Brazilian Fraternity of Assistance to Convicts

The APAC was born in 1972 in the city of São José dos Campos - SP, through a group of Christian volunteers, under the leadership of the lawyer and journalist Dr. Mario Ottoboni in Humaita's prison, to evangelize and give moral support to prisoners. The inexperience in the world of crime, drugs and prisons led to the creation of a revolutionary experience. The acronym meant at first, Loving Next, You'll Love Christ.

            In 1974, the team that was the Prison Pastoral Care, concluded that only an entity organized legally would be able to face the difficulties, fortuities and changes that permeated the daily lives in the prison and so was instituted APAC - Association for Protection and Assistance to Convicts, a nonprofit legal entity, with the aim of assisting the court in execution of the sentence, the prisoner recovering, the society protection, helping victims and promoting restorative Justice.

            FBAC - Brazilian Fraternity of Assistance to Convicts was founded in São José dos Campos – SP, on August 9, 1995, under the presidency of Mario Ottoboni. It is the entity that gathers, orients, supervises and ensures the unity and uniformity of APACs in Brazil and advises the application of APAC method abroad. It is affiliated with Prison Fellowship International - PFI, the UN organization consultant for prison affairs.
