Kommuninvest is Sweden’s largest lender to municipalities and regions, established in 1986 to provide cost-efficient and stable financing for the public sector. It is 100% owned by Swedish municipalities and regions, and its mission is to support welfare investments across the country—especially in areas like infrastructure, education, and sustainability.

Kommuninvest operates with an AAA/Aaa credit rating, backed by an explicit, irrevocable, unlimited joint guarantee from its owners. It issues bonds in SEK, USD, and EUR markets, including green and social bonds, to fund environmentally and socially sustainable projects. As of late 2024, its total lending reached SEK 545.2 billion, with a growing share allocated to green and social loans.
