About

The Center for Applied Biomechanics (CAB) is the world’s largest university based research center studying the biomechanics of injury. It has earned an international reputation for its ongoing research and education in impact biomechanics, computational mechanics, vehicle crashworthiness and crash dummy development.

CAB members are faculty of the UVA Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Their multidisciplinary team brings together engineers, physicians, public health professionals and biostatisticians from across the University.

As the largest university-based injury biomechanics laboratory in the world, the Center for Applied Biomechanics - University of Virginia specializes in impact biomechanics for injury prevention. Started by NHTSA back in 1989, the center now operates out of a 30,000-square-foot facility located in the University of Virginia Research Park. It is recognized as one of the world’s leading research groups in the field, using state-of-the-art equipment to analyze the intricacies of how the human body responds to injury.
